PLATFORM
AFFORDABILITY
Next year, tuition will be increasing by $2,300, putting a financial strain on every student at TCU. For the first time next year, however, a student will be permitted to sit in on the Board of Trustees meeting where tuition increases are decided for the upcoming year, and if selected to be your Student Body President, Matt is committed to advocating for both students and their wallets in this meeting. In fact, Matt is so passionate about this that he is doing his senior thesis on the affordability of a college education and endowment management. Some of his tangible ideas include the following:
-
Advocating for percentage-based merit scholarships that increase proportionately to tuition increases
-
Advocating for merit-based scholarships that students can earn after arriving on campus in reward for high academic performance
-
Using his research in endowment management to find ways to cut costs so TCU does not need to raise tuition at the same rate in the future
-
Searching for a streamlined system that will show students outside scholarships that are available to them
STUDENT SUCCESS
At the end of the day, every TCU student is here to earn their degree and get a job. However, classes and the job-search process are very stressful, and Matt has some ideas for how to alleviate your concerns:
-
Create more study space on campus (especially during dead days and finals week) by unlocking more buildings on campus and unlocking every classroom in each building to serve as study space
-
Revamp Frog Jobs to be more user-friendly for every major and allow all opportunities to be visible to each major
-
Enhance alumni connections and networking opportunities for students in all majors
-
Create a better connection for International students and International alumni
-
Bridge the gap between students studying abroad and those still at TCU
INCLUSION
As the SGA Finance Committee Chair, Matt has had the opportunity to hear from hundreds of student organizations on campus and is able to see the value in organizations on campus that are not always given the recognition they deserve. For this piece of his platform, Matt wants to hear from YOU about the areas in which TCU can do better. All students should feel welcome and comfortable at TCU, and as the Student Body President, Matt would see it as his role to represent all students, beginning with your ideas.
